1 June At The Movies
Task:
Create a campaign promoting the free screenings of animated movies for kids at an arthouse cinema on the occasion of World Children’s Day.
Solution:
Since the campaign targeted not only children but their parents as well, we needed an idea that was attention-grabbing and compelling yet also cartoonish and funny. And, of course, it would be extra nice if there were a cinematic feel to it. After re-watching our favorite animated classics and conducting some animation tests, we decided on a plot where a cast of colorful cartoon characters invades the space around the cinema on their way to the movies.
The blend of live footage and animation proved captivating, largely due to the presence of characters inspired by treats children love and associate with a proper movie experience—balloon animals, popcorn, and cotton candy. Each character was modeled in 3D with bright, colorful textures and equipped with a set of unique moves and superpowers. The latter sparked hilarious and suspenseful narratives in a live setting craftily tracked to ensure the characters had all the play space they needed in the brief, trailer-like video sequences.
For the static visuals, we developed a rather childlike typography that matched the playfulness of the characters and helped deliver large amounts of information in an attractive and engaging way.
