Swiss Public Transport: VöV
Task:
Bring to life a handy blue character whose job is to give safety advice to passengers on Swiss public transport.
Solution:
Considering the specifics of the character’s role, our goal was to create a model with a distinct personality that felt attractive, friendly, and helpful, while staying true to the client’s original concept.
One particular challenge during the modelling stage was the limited space for facial expressions on the front of the character. By design, we could only use the palm of the hand to sculpt the face. To overcome this, our team devised a clever solution using Blender modifiers, allowing the eyes, mouth, and fingers to move independently. This not only enabled us to convey a wide range of emotions to support various safety messages, but also to animate eye-catching opening and closing sequences involving dynamic interplay between the fingers and the face. Special attention was given to the skin texture and the sharpness of the knuckle lines to emphasize the importance of holding tight while traveling.
The animated character quickly became a favorite among all 130 transport companies that make up the Swiss Association of Public Transport, inspiring them to adopt the campaign and broadcast the videos across trams, buses, and trains throughout Switzerland. High five — and hold tight!
Much to our delight, the campaign won a German Brand Award: https://www.german-brand-award.com/en/gallery/detail/brand-communication-ambient-media-and-outdoor-advertising/verband-oeffentlicher-verkehr-voev-sie-haben-es-in-der-hand
